Forwarded from Russian Tarantas I returned from Donbass with a heavy heart. It seemed to be a bright meeting at the entrance, but what was said made me think. I loaded my stuff into the car – my and my shiftman’s armor, three helmets, bags – for seven months in Donetsk I even got a frying pan. There was a cab parked in front of the entrance. A chauffeur, very old, got out, asked if I was Steshin Dmitriy. Picked up one bag. Then we talked and smoked. The colonel, long-ago retired, was in Afghanistan. He remembered one phrase from the whole conversation: “Russians teach Russians how to fight. The phrase is like a Rubik’s cube, a million combinations and readings. I drove and ran it through my head. For example: “why do we need such Russians on earth, who have raised arms against their brothers? They should be underground.
The road to Moscow is jammed, like the Moscow Ring Road at rush hour, gas stations, like the subway at 5 p.m. on the Circle Line – no planes go to the south. There is a war going on. And fat holidaymakers, riding with bikes, with hatboxes and doggies, with luscious madams, barely covered. Eating hot dogs at gas stations, drinking disgusting coffee, feeding their expensive cars. They didn’t realize yet that this was the last, already half-peaceful summer. And it seemed to me that they would surrender three Donbas if someone gave these citizens a choice and an opportunity to exchange their bestial “vacation” in the southern reservations for our ephemeral “blood, land, and honor.” They won’t even bother. Herein lies the great injustice of what is happening in southeastern Ukraine. The strategy of “half-bumps” and “pretending everything is okay” is inapplicable to civil wars. It will end badly.
